Monto State High School promotes the all-round development of students by providing a wide range of academic, cultural and sporting opportunities.

Junior secondary (Years 7, 8 and 9)

The school has strong ties with Primary Schools in the District. The emphasis in the Junior Secondary School is on student engagement, the building of strong relationships and laying the foundations for life-long learning. Our aim is for students to feel safe, welcome and successful in their new high school environment. The smooth transition from primary to secondary school is seen as a priority.

The Junior Secondary Curriculum has been designed to ensure that students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of subjects in a caring and supportive environment and is based on the Australian National Curriculum and Key Learning Areas.

Introduction to senior (Year 10)

Year 10 students undertake a curriculum structure that aligns with educational initiatives which incorporate Year 10 in the Senior School. All Year 10 students study English, Maths, Science and History as well as three electives. All subjects studied in year 10 lead directly into subjects offered in Years 11 and 12, thus giving the students the opportunity to experience the demands of the subject before they commit to it in Year 11 and 12. Year 10 Science, Maths, English and History are based on the Australian curriculum.

Year 10 students are also able to begin School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.

Senior school (Years 11 and 12)

A wide range of academic and vocational subjects are offered in the senior years so as to cater for all of the needs of our students. Year 11 and 12 students are able to work a flexible timetable. Students may also undertake TAFE programs, School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships.
