Monto State High School is a small, stand-alone high school with students travelling from five primary schools in the area, including a non-state school.
The school is situated on the second-largest area of school grounds in Queensland. It has an extensive agricultural farm where students grow crops and raise cattle. The campus also features a full-size oval, an indoor sports hall equipped for basketball, netball, and volleyball, as well as access to other sporting facilities. Additional facilities include a resource centre and computer labs.
The school offers a broad range of curriculum options, with increasing flexibility for students in the senior phase of learning. TAFE link courses, school-based traineeships, structured work placements, and alternative programs provide students with diverse pathways and a future-focused education.
Our experienced staff work closely with students, families, and other educators to create meaningful learning opportunities for all students. Monto State High School is proud of its strong academic, cultural, and sporting achievements, which are supported by a highly engaged and supportive community.
2026 Annual Improvement Plan Priorities
In 2026, our Annual Improvement Plan focuses on Positive Culture for Learning (PC4L) and Reading.
Positive Culture for Learning (PC4L)
At Monto State High School, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. Our Positive Culture for Learning (PC4L) framework focuses on:
- Building Respectful Relationships: We prioritise fostering positive relationships between students, staff, and the wider school community. This includes implementing restorative practices to resolve conflicts and promote understanding.
- Promoting Well-being: Through targeted well-being programs, we aim to build resilience, self-regulation, and emotional intelligence in our students. Initiatives such as mindfulness sessions, peer support programs, and mental health awareness campaigns are key components of this focus area.
- High Expectations and Positive Behaviour: We set clear expectations for behaviour and celebrate positive achievements through reward systems, recognition programs, and regular communication with families.
- Student Voice and Leadership: We empower students to take an active role in shaping their school environment through leadership opportunities, student councils, and feedback mechanisms.
Reading
Reading is a cornerstone of academic success and personal growth, and we are committed to improving literacy outcomes for all students. Our focus on reading includes:
- Targeted Reading Interventions: We have implemented evidence-based reading programs to support students at all levels, including those who require additional support to meet literacy benchmarks.
- Embedding Reading Across the Curriculum: Teachers are embedding reading strategies into all subject areas to ensure students develop strong comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
Through these priorities, Monto State High School is committed to ensuring that every student is supported to achieve their full potential in a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
